It’s college football bowl season almost, and that means a clean slate for everyone in the pickin world. If you held back from pickin because you didn’t tune in until mid-season, here’s your chance for glory. I realize its a bit early for pickin the big games, but odds are the TB site will lie dormant on the next couple of Thursdays, so here are my picks and my tunes. Your challenge, in addition to pickin winners, is to produce the ultimate end of year/new year playlist. I know that’s kind of tough, so feel free to stretch the connection. There’s also a poll question which should satisfy Zeek and others in getting their shot at good tune pickin recognition on the greatest pickin game on the worldwide web.

Man I would take BR and OB anyday in your poll. Sure they wear their hats crooked, but they had freakin awesome curveballs, and were even known to walk a few only to pick them off first base. I guess you could say they were sneaky or crafty, which is exactly like their music. They don’t play junk that is played over and over again on the radio. They play the jazz, rock, pop, zydeco, blues, country, and even a little rap. They play whatever gets the job done!
You southpaws stick together. I do remember one night when we were 13 and on Concrete Products that BR walked a guy, picked him off, walked another guy and picked him off and walked a third guy and picked him off. I’m pretty sure out number 3 was Shane Switzer on LaFont Inn who simply stood there and shook his head.
Then he walked the leadoff guy the next inning, and yep, picked him off.
Zeek was probably catching that game.
Yeah, BR and I were known to have high pitch counts. I was keeping the pitching chart for him one game at Perk and I think was approaching 200 pitches in the third inning. Let’s see pitchers of today’s ERA try and do that.
Do you remember the game versus Biloxi in the playoffs our senior year? We were up one with one out in the last inning and no one was on base. I walked the next hitter and knew they would be attempting to bunt the guy over to second to put the potential tying run into scoring position. I picked the guy off first for the second out! I then walked the next batter. I again knew they would try and get the guy to second somehow. The Biloxi coach called time out and yelled at the guy on first and told the guy to not get picked off first and to stay on the bag. Well, I heard that and proceeded to pick the guy off first to end the game.

The Rebels proved that they can play with anyone in the country and did the SEC proud. They dominated a team that was ranked 18 spots higher than them in that team’s home state!!
Alabama however, was a pure embarrassment to the SEC while getting their butts stomped by UTAH, for God’s sake, and showing absolutely no character, guts, or genitalia. It just goes to show that if you really want it more than the other guy, if you fight for it you might get it. Saban’s a turd.
For the love of God can we get a playoff system??
I think Utah pretty much got the treatment that Ole Miss did – no one thought they could win. Just goes to show you that on any given day anyone can win.
JL…anyone can win??? Utah put a shonuff ass whoopin on Bama (who was way overdue for one) and Ole Miss rolled up over 500 yards of offense on another one of these Big 12 pathetic defenses….i think people, fans get caught up in the sports media’s favorites, ie., Bama (always) and Tech (could do no wrong after the Crabtree heroics against Texas)……love ya though
From one Byrd to another Quail – all I meant was -never underestimate the other team – I believe that Utah (although undefeated) and Ole Miss were both underestimated – likely because the media favorites as you said – Bama and Texas Tech – both believed all the hype they heard about themselves. I used to live in Lubbock 20 years ago and have seen them beat Ole Miss a few years back in Oxford while Eli was there. Payback is always fun.
