Quote of the Week:
“This is great!” —Flyin’ J
TB warned you degenerate gamblers who follow the site that past results are not indicators of future performance. The TBU is off to a staggeringly mediocre start, though we are collectively, still above .500. POTW’s last week went 12-11 for the second week in a row and bonus picks came in at 27-30. I won my POTW for the second week in a row, but struggled to a 2-3 mark on bonus picks. Though scores were unaffected, I was disappointed that nobody picked an outright ‘dog of the week correctly. Mostly I was disappointed that I didn’t. Coach TJ picked up SOTW and Tiny D got the list points for tunage, by the way.
On with the show…
Last week’s results (remember, only bonus picks shown in parentheses, the top 12 won their POTW:
- Tiny D (3-1 plus music bonus) 67
- BR (plus makeup points to TD’s bonus picks) 62
- Larry 62
- MD 62
- Sam’smama 62
- JLou (3-2) 56
- TKH (1-1) 50
- Flyin’ J (2-3, plus makeup points to stay ahead of biggest loser, BW Buzz) 45
- TDW (2-3) 45
- TB (2-3) 45
- Face (1-2) 45
- Mac (0-3) 45
- BW Buzz (4-0) 44
- Coach TJ (3-1, plus music bonus) 37
- Fish (3-2) 26
- Pitalo (2-3) 14
- Fig 10
- Sweet 10
- RSR 10
- Feidt’s Follies 10
- Zeek 10
- Smiley (1-3) 8
- Irv (0-3) 2
- SM (perma Kansas pick) 72
- BW Buzz–70
- Fig–42 (I can understand how all those crazy State fans led you astray)
Here are my picks for this week and here’s your link to the odds:
- Cal -3
- Houston -3
- Florida -14
- Clemson +7′
- Notre Dame +3′ (outright ‘dog o’the week)

Because everybody had so much musical fun at my expense last week, a little passive aggressive revenge (with nuthin’ but love)….
- Back Biters and Syndicators–John Lee Hooker
- Everything About You–Ugly Kid Joe
- Screw You (We’re from Texas)–Ray Wylie Hubbard
- Kiss My Ass–Country Joe McDonald

Who’s got NC State as a dog? Sheridan has them -2. But I do like them to win at any rate.
Need some clarification. North Carolina is -2. I didn’t see NC State playing.
(Mac, they played last night–TB)
Potw: vandy 12

I printed the USA Today yesterday and it had them catching 2. I could not get your link to work, so I used those lines. I will take Kansas as my DOTW.
My bad, the link was messed up. I fixed it.
MID TN St -4
East Carolina +19′
Today in class I had a student ask me about “this mullet toss thing” so in tribute of one of the funnest weekends I ever had, this one is for you big guy
Saturday, Sep. 18
WEST VIRGINIA -10
POTW: KANSAS STATE -3½
PURDUE 16½ Ball State 49
And in case anyone needed the line for the Ball State game, I left that in there. You’re welcome.
TDW, is the Purdue/Ball State a non-sequiter or a pick? You usually only do 5 bonus and a POTW.
I cut and paste and forgot to delete that. But give me credit regardless of who wins.
Man, you lose one week and it’s like you’re out of the race!! Gotta get sum get back!
DOTW- Portland St.+51
SOTW- Brickhouse- Commodores
LOTW- Three Times A Lady-Commodores
Easy Like Sunday Morning-Commodores
TB- You should give 5 bonus pts. to first person that guesses the inspiration for my songs this week.
Zeek, is Portland State a bonus pick or an unscored DOTW? DOTW is for outright winners unless it’s a bonus pick, so I just wanted to be sure. BTW, I think 51 might be the biggest line ever. Anybody heard if there’s ever been one higher?
As for the bonus, that’s a joke right? Just checkin’.
I am assuming Ines Sainz would be the inspiration.
(To borrow from Wooderson in “Dazed and Confused”, “It’d be a lot cooler if it was.”–TB)
LSU 7 1/2
AUBURN 7 1/2
POTW ALABAMA 24
Your post has moved the debate fordarw. Thanks for sharing!
POTW: LA Tech +3
I seem to recall some lines in the 60+ range back in the ’80’s and early ’90’s when Nebraska and OK would run for 500 yards (and pass for about 40) and beat the heck out of teams like Kansas and cover the number. Sweet, do you or Wallace keep an archive of wager sheets (all for entertainment purposes only, of course)?
This is all greek to me. I can make cupcakes with cute little footballs on top, though. Doesn’t that earn me a place somewhere? Honorable mention? Something?
Barista, come now! You are a sports fan, so it’s easy to pick up. But yes, the odds can be confusing if you are new to them. Feel free to just pick a winner of any college game, I’ll apply the spread for you. RMac did this a couple years ago and finished in the top half of all competitors!
OR, you can just be a fan of TP and cheer on the combatants. Or mock them. But we’ll need a tune of the week as the price of admission.
I like cupcakes,
Busy busy weekend so dropping these in a rush.

SOTW- Can’t You See?- Marshall Tucker Band (Gonna take a Southbound, all the way to Ga. now, til the train run outta track….)
My vote for SOTW is for Mac-a-licious (Pearl Jam’s Evolution)…love that song!
I have tried unsuccessfully to copy and paste a video from youtube I wanted ya’ll to see, but I am too pc illiterate, I guess. So, I am just gonna put the link for it on here for ya’ll. It was aired on my favorite radio show, The Walton and Johnson Show, and I would like to change this to my SOTW, TB. It is great song that hits the mark about the state of our union. Check it out. Maybe someone can educate me on how you do the copy/paste thing with youtube video.
Nevermind, I’m an idiot.
Its after Midnight Elvis time and this is the first time I have had to myself; if that is not enough I am working. Well here it goes.
West Virginia -10
Mississippi State (My Dogs for this Week) +71/2
POTW – Air Force (Again, Game to watch) +161/2
This would be my underdog for the week except its mascot flies high.
SOTW – Spin Doctors – Two Princess, Remember When? (i.e. Law School)
Love the Spin Doctors!!
Me and this article, sitting in a tree, L-AE–R-N-I-N-G!
TJ, that is a great tune bro.
how about this PJ classic—one of my favorites.
If you could have seen mine and Baens performance of it, standing on top of a picnic table at the flora bama, many moons ago (we were very sonber at the time) you would’ve been even more impressed. BTW Black is still one of my favorite songs, kudos
I still get letters from all the stray dogs and cats for a radius of 50 miles around the panhandle who can never forget the sound.
It was one helluva weekend.
Perfect! Now I am at an utter loss at what song the SOTW should be. I officially withdraw mine. Must find something more fitting….
POTW LSU -8 (see what I am doin here?)(reverse sicologee).

SOTW “Lousiana Saturday Night”- Mel Mcdaniel. GO STATE GO!

Seahorse by Devendra Banhart
OK TB, I guess I misunderstood about the underdog deal, or was looking for easy way out, but I do not want that as my dotw.
DOTW- LA Tech
If you’re betting though, I really like portland st+51, lotta points!!
POTW – Any team Ole Miss is laying double digit points against.
Vandy. Still swimming in it for any more right now.
SOTW- Madd dawg. Great song.
LOTW- tiny d.
Some very ggod songs this week, and I am having hard time choosing. But since this is not a strict venue, and you can’t pigeonhole me, I vote for TB,MD, and Tiny D for SOTW.(I’m a sucka for Morris Day)
Hey FigE–………………Chili Sauce!!!!!
Who the hell is Inez Sainz?
I vote for RSR for SOTW. A very under appreciated song by one of my favorite bands.
Zeek – I cannot believe you do not know who Inez is! Google her and you will see that her SOTW would have to be “Baby Got Back”!
Wow, knew the story but not the name JLOU, but, uh, …….. Daddy LIKE!!
I am officially an Inez fan.
Great tunes all around this week.
LOTW: tiny d brings it again; dig the theme, appreciate the flow of the list and love the music
SOTW: Pitalo for Copperhead Road; I have always had a thing for this song
Honorable Mention SOTW: MD for Black; my favorite PJ tune
I am going with sterno for SOTW. I thought he boycotted SOTW?
I usually do Lucious, but I was inspired on Friday night—-perhaps it was O’Donnell’s big win in Delaware last week, perhaps in was the decent play of the Rams rookie QB #1 pick Sam Bradford in his first NFL start or perhaps it was that 12 pack of Heineys.
It sounds like the perfect storm but I’d bet on the Heiney!
