Oh, ye spinsters of fate, I beseech you, make the thread of the SI cover jinx long and strong in 2009.

Congrats to the Rebels and their fans here in the TB universe. Now I need to go puke.
I had to add this after some of the comments. Hat tip to Six Pack Speak for combining the logos that were developed a few years ago for a new Col Reb by some dude up in New York CITY.

About travellinbaen
I'm a 40 year old lawyer living in Ridgeland, Mississippi. I'm several years and a couple hundred miles removed from most of my old running buddies so I started the blog to provide an outlet for many of the observations and ideas that used to be the subjects of our late night/happy hour/halftime conversations and arguments.
Is it possible to call SI and say no thank you to the cover? I wish Georgia had done that last year.
Due to facebook, TB, you already know my feelings on this. I’m quite superstitious when it comes to my favorite sports teams and try my best to ignore and deflate any thing that could possibly lead to a jinx. My assistant is a die hard Penguins fan, and throughout the Stanley Cup Playoffs, I constantly told him to watch what he said because it would come back to bite him. He followed my advice and lo and behold, the Pens won the Cup.
What can I say? I’m paranoid when it comes to possible sporting success because anything can happen. Ask Pats fans last year (Although I must say my heart shook with glee when Brady went down).
Oh yeah, don’t get me wrong, I’m very happy the Rebs are getting some positive attention. I spent most of my college years dealing with the terribleness of Coach “O”, so anything better than 3-8 makes me happy.
Hey everybody I urge you to go to my comment yesterday on the Cable conversation and give me feedback!!!!!! TB, where ya at????
I am officially caught up..woo hoo! Well on your blog at least.
Also, does it count as a jinx that ESPN apparently thinks Ole Miss is going to the Sugar Bowl?
Apparently MSU has missed out on this as only USM and OM are projected to go bowling.
Wasn’t Tim Tebow recently on the front cover of SI? Eventhough it wasn’t the preview issue does that still count as the SI jinx?
I think Tebow is exempt from all curses due to his position, allegedly, as God’s favorite football player.
It’s well documented that jinxes, mojos, and mystical forces that work ill only work ill on Ole Miss.
TDW, there is one area where OM cannot compete against the Bullies and that is in the supernatural realm of despair. Somebody either above or below has it in for us for sure.
Cuz, I was just saying to Irv away from the blog that last year’s Tebow/Greg Hardy cover when the Rebs won in the Swamp ended up being a positive omen for both teams.
I hate to act like things are so predictable but it feels like I have seen this movie before. It feels like Tebow and Florida’s quest for a third title in four years is almost inevitable. How could they not win the title? Something catastrophic would have to happen to make it not so. I almost don’t care because It’s as if we have had so much Tebow Info overload that I have run out of things to complain about….Almost.
The inevitability of them winning the title is exactly what makes me think they won’t. Wasn’t that the case with USC the year they lost to Texax? Coincidentally, isn’t the title game at the Rose Bowl this year?
who is the last preseason number one to win it all? Hasn’t happened much I know. But if I had to bet I’d go with Florida….unless the alternative is the “field”.
SC in 2004, FSU in 1999. I am more confident of the FSU.
In College basketball the preseason number 1 wins all the time. For example last year with North Carolina, atleast the second trophy that the Florida Gators won, the UCONN team led by Emeka Okafor and Ben Gordon; UCONN girls basketball.
I am not one for too much talk – I’d rather see how the playing is going to be. The proof is there not in the print. That all said, you have to take the publicity and the glory when you can get it – for some that is only in the pre-season.
I understand Jackie Sherrill is picking OM to go undefeated in the regular season and lose to Florida in the SEC Championship. His reason is mainly that he likes Snead so much. I took at look at Ole Miss’ schedule and the Rebs get Tenn in a rebuilding phase, and don’t play Georgia or FL. Other than if they choke against a lesser light or lose to LSU or Bama, both at home, they damn well may go 12-0.
I looked at State’s slate closely for the first time too. We are staring down the barrel of 3-9. Our key game is week 2 vs Auburn, on the road. If we can steal one there, against a rebuilding War Eagle, we might get enough momentum to win 6. But it ain’t looking to good.
State might beat Auburn, and I hope they do. Chizik, the new Auburn coach, has a mean losing streak going. I still don’t get how he got hired by them in the first place.
Ole Miss 8-4.
State 7-5 or 6-6.
F.O.M!
and Bama Too!
If Mississippi State or Auburn wins more than 4 games I will be surprised.
“..long and strong” That’s what Davern Geralds was thinking during this photo…
Ole Miss has the loses 2 or 3 games just because of who they are plus Nutts good for an extra bonehead L a year too.
Gee whiz, I just like the pretty navy blue uniform!
BTW, someone emailed me to ask what the F.O.M. was supposed to mean. It’s “Famous Ole Miss”, in case anyone else was wondering.
I think FOM has a double meaning myself but I appreciate you taking the high road with it.
