Thursday Pickin’ Season III, Week 7

Quote of the Week:

I want 7000 points and a statue erected in my honor.” –Mac-a-licious

TB can hardly believe we have already reached the midway point of TPSIII. It was a glorious week 6 of college football. My Bullies stomped a mudhole in Houston and ‘Bama lost to South Carolina. You really can’t ask for more than that in an autumn weekend. But to every yin there must be yang and so it was in this case. The Bama defeat, coupled with the spread defeat of their loathsome cousins from the Plains resulted in yet another painful week of pickin’ as these loser choices were popular with not only TB but a large percentage of the population here in the TBU. So be it. No pain, no gain.

On the upside, for you degenerate gamblers out there with access to a legal Vegas book that accepts straight-up bets, the TBU nailed an unheard of eight dogs’o the week. Considering not everyone chose a DOTW, the success rate there was near fifty percent. With the favorable payoff odds, in Vegas where this sort of thing is legal, one would’ve made a considerable chunk of change last weekend by following us all, even considering our lackluster performance on the scored picks.

There were 9 POTW winners who as always are listed in the weekly standings below as one through nine, with only their bonus picks in parentheses. Mac tied and the rest lost. TB falls to 3-3 on the season on POTW’s and 12-15-3 on bonus picks. Overall we were 26-33 on bonus picks. The collective TBU is now 65-65 on POTW’s for the season. Standings to follow, congrats to JLou and Flyin’ J for pickin’ up the tunage points.

About travellinbaen

I'm a 40 year old lawyer living in Ridgeland, Mississippi. I'm several years and a couple hundred miles removed from most of my old running buddies so I started the blog to provide an outlet for many of the observations and ideas that used to be the subjects of our late night/happy hour/halftime conversations and arguments.

Man, I am sick and tired of losing. How does Auburn blow a 21 pt. lead to UK? The same way Ole Miss blew a 21 pt. lead to J’ville St. I guess. Well, here goes another act of futility and tunage that represents it.

Great tune FJ, and Sweet, I had forgotten about that Cradle of Love video—nice.

And how about this tune as I know that some of you, not me but some of you folks, enjoy the hash pipe:

  28. Tiny d says:

Holy bananas! I totally bombed on my picks…but all is well, Auburn won State won and the tunes were slammin in the TBU this week.

  29. ZEEK says:

man, I can’t pick my nose. I am officially reverting to the George Costanza school of thought. I will now go with the exact OPPOSITE of my gut instinct. I’m so far behind now it won’t really matter. On the flipside, the tunes this week were incredible. This is the hardest I have had to contemplate so far. Being a devout Zep fan, though, I have to give the SOTW nod to Luscious Larry for Tangerine, and LOTW to JLou with FigE right at her tater box.

  30. Jessie Lou says:

Zeek, man you are cracking me up which I need on this stress filled Monday afternoon!

I listened to the Auburn game on the radio in the car Sat. and could not believe the score – what a barn burner! So excited about State – although my player got hurt, Ballard did get Player of the Game – Go Goula Boy!

Other than my own list which I loved I think I got to agree with Zeek and go with Middle Fig.

  31. ZEEK says:

JLou- I do what I can with what I have. (which sux if you’re me. And I am)

  32. irvineredd says:

okay, this may not count but whatever, I need the points. I’m voting for myself.

I almost came back with a vengeance. That’s what I get for trusting Nebraska, as the book version of Forrest Gump would call them, those Corkshucker Jack-off’s!

  33. larry says:

    Pulling Mussels gets my vote.

    Sweet was a close second.

  34. RockStarRambler says:

    Great music this week!
    LOTW – Jessie Lou
SOTW – Harmony for Kiss Off

  35. ZEEK says:

Little story from this past weekend ya’ll might find as funny as I did. I was at the Ocean Springs football game and overheard an untypical conversation for OS, a city known for being on the cusp of civility and culture. Two rednecks were behind me(again, uncommon for OS), and this conversation ensued.

Redneck#1- “Didju heer bout dat Ole Miss maskot-black bar- thang?”
Redneck#2- “How in da wurld u gon’ chainge a maskot?”
Redneck#1- “Beets me, hell, I wish dey’d have made it sumthin po-litta-cally kurrect
    da ‘Retard Midgets’!!!!”
    (BLANK STARE)

    • nice. Here’s what’s funny. If the powers that be had just decided “we’re gonna be bears” and then found some 19 year old hipster fratboy dufus to spread around the idea so it seemed like an “underground” movement and then they tried to “oppose” it for a few weeks, everybody would’ve suddenly been screaming, “hell no, we gon have us a bear. By dam. fergit, hell.”

But honestly, I can’t bear any more mascot talk.

On a more important subject, I DID hear that ewoP isn’t illiterate any more, after several years of college. He’s been upgraded. Now he can bear-ly read.

  36. larry says:

OS has plenty of those conversations and plenty of rednecks. Yankees too.

  37. ZEEK says:

Larry, how dare you? OS is a bastion of savoir-faire and a citadel of enlightenment!!!!

  38. Jessie Lou says:

    Only in their minds……..

  39. Bobby Pitalo says:

    Smileyj SOTW
    Zeek LOTW

  40. larry says:

I will just stop by Rumors Lounge and ask their clients about culture and enlightenment in OS. Hell, they are open 24/7. What about one of your most upstanding citizens Scott Walker? I wonder if he has had his phone usage rights revoked? He sure as hell skated on the DUI. I wonder how much and who got into that judges pocket or ear? You will never be able to convince me that was not set-up before they even walked in court. Your OS Mayor and Alderman sure looked relieved that they did not have to take the stand. I was sure looking forward to be enlightened by their testimony.

  41. larry says:

    judge’s

  42. Jessie Lou says:

    Good one Larry!
