Saturday Football Open Thread

TB’s watching Clemson-Maryland, Bama-UK and Wisc-Minn right now. Need to win early to make the late games fun. I do hate pulling for Bama, but they need to roll. Clemson just scored to go up 9-0 pending PAT, and Wisc leads 3-0. So far so good on TV games.

About travellinbaen

I'm a 40 year old lawyer living in Ridgeland, Mississippi. I'm several years and a couple hundred miles removed from most of my old running buddies so I started the blog to provide an outlet for many of the observations and ideas that used to be the subjects of our late night/happy hour/halftime conversations and arguments.

  1. No sooner than I open the thread but UK kicks a FG and Minnesota takes the lead. Amazing how these games can turn to crap all at once.

  2. Mac says:

I can’t stand Bama but I don’t think anyone is looking any better this year. They have popped a top on a can of whup ass on Kentucky today.

  3. I love Wisconsin running backs. They all look like they were cloned from bowling balls.

  4. All my games are going down to the wire if I have a chance to win. Michigan just tied Mich State, wish I had the 360 on, but I’m watching with one eye tied behind my back today due to babysitting duty.

UK looking to back door. I hate Bama. And every year I have to be reminded to never bet on them when they are favored by more than a point or two, the risks of losing the entertainment purposes and Bama still winning are just too painful to withstand.

I know its the Big Ten, but the Big Ten network is cool. I just watched the Mich game and the Purdue game both going down to the last seconds.

  6. The Big 10 is fun to watch because there is so much parity. They always seem to have at least one game go down to the wire. But that league needs to find some speed to compete against the southern and western teams.

  7. Jessie Lou says:

From these comments I can see I haven’t missed much by not watching – I don’t need the extra anxiety!

  8. I just clicked over for a second to FSU-BC. FSU had 4th and goal from the one and tried to run the tried and true fake dive/rollout pass and got stuffed for a sack. Not only that but the TE was covered. I’m stunned. Don’t often see that play fail.

Well, not counting the State-LSU game last week, but that’s State, so it’s not quite the same.

  9. Wow. Took a two quarter break to go outside with Elle and come back to see GA score on LSU to go up 7-6. This ain’t what the experts said to expect. Should be a good 4th Quarter. A 7-6 final would work just fine for me. I’d be entertained.

  10. PS, if you went to Eastlawn in the late 70’s-80’s you can appreciate that it blew my mind to run in to Mr. Grissom’s wife and granddaughter. Turns out they live around the corner here in Ridgeland.

  11. Jessie Lou says:

They used to live around the corner from me until the storm – nice to know where they landed.

  12. Harmony says:

Okay..I finally picked a professional football team. So now I can play along..once I figure out what it is your doing.

  13. Harmo, the “pickin” is just predicting the results of football games Vegas style against the odds. Then, because its the weekend, when I first started doing this I would throw in a playlist off my ipod from what I was inspired by on my picks. It’s taken a life of its own from there. The scoring is more or less logical, but pretty convoluted. The good thing is it really doesn’t matter.

So, bottom line, pick your favorite team, or any team and you are exempt from worrying about the lines. I’ll just apply the appropriate line to whatever team you pick, and throw us some tasty tunes to chew on in the meantime and “voila!” you’re in the game. You could even choose some hapless loser, like say BR and go his opposite the way S&M does with Sweet and see how it turns out.

In the meantime, I’ll try and get some more non-football entertainment back on the blog soon.

  14. Harmony says:

So I ended up picking the Patriots.
