Quote of the Day “But I somehow someway keep coming up with funky ass s**t every day.” as sung by the Gourds covering Snoop, Gin and Juice
We had 9 POTW winners last week. TB and Pitalo were hard luck losers. Musical points were awarded to Zeek for Song of the Week for “Gin and Juice” by the Gourds. He had three votes and his shrewd decision to vote for himself propelled him past Pitalo for SOTW and past Feidt’s Follies as weekly champ. RMac took home theme of the week with three votes, list of the week had no clear winner, with one vote apiece to several players. Be sure to participate and vote on your tunes next week. And beware of TB’s wrath if you self vote and I deem it bad form. Last week’s standings, with bonus picks specified, POTW winners end with number 9:
- Zeek (4-1); a big move up the charts this week.
- RSR; brings it every week.
- Feidt’s Follies (4-1); The usual.
- Ed; a no points shout out for post of the week. I laughed out loud, though I daresay I may have been the only one.
- Sweet; seemed like old times last weekend.
- MD; still dizzy from the teapot rides.
- Adam (1-1); co-TB-right-wing tormenter of the week.
- Fig (2-3); go ahead and put your crap on the blog Fig–I don’t mind being outnumbered. I just hope y’all aren’t jumping all over me if we establish a Kremlin before Christmas.
- Face (0-2); The Greenies are bound to be better next year.
- Pitalo (5-0); two votes for Train in Vain, and I almost voted for Ain’t No Sunshine–that broke the tie ahead of TB. BTW, Pitalo has kicked butt every week I think. Sweet, you watchin?
- TB (5-0); I’ve been unconscious for three weeks. You might want to spend some money in Vegas going against me this week.
- RMac; Theme of the week winner
- TKH (4-1); Thanks for the invite to the money payin pickem game.
- SC (3-1); TB loves a link.
- Larry (3-1); I might need you to get me a prescription written.
- Smily (3-2); keep on pickin the Bullies.
- OB (2-3); so close to breakin through.
- Greeg (1-2); glad you’re back.
- BR MIA–dude? WTF?
- JLM–posted, then lit out for Horn without pickin.
The updated standings:
- TB 273

TB, you didn’t mention that my POTW won, did I also get points for this? I appreciate all the votes for theme of the week.
I almost gave you the win not taking in to consideration the point spread, but my sense of fairness to all won out over my desire to see you win at all costs. Maryland only won by three and they had to win by 10.
Smily will be at the State game Saturday for the first time in years. Probably won’t recognize the place. But I will be cheering the Bullies on to victory. Or maybe a respectable game atleast. I wonder if some of my old stomping grounds are still there. Would love to show the wife mine and Baen’s stool for 3years at the landing for nickle and quarter beer nites. I still can’t believe they raised it to a quarter. Bastards. Oh well, I’m too old for the landing anyway. Now in honor of my trip I am only picking the Bullies this week.
POTW- BULLIES -3
Songs- “Dont go away mad. just go away” THE Crue
“Gone Shooting” AcDc
“Working at the car wash blues” Jim Croce
You’ll recognize it, but it’s a lot different. Looks good though. Unfortunately, The Landing, Doug’s Place and Mack’s are all lost to history. I’m told there are some decent places to go in town now though. The new video board is going to really make the stadium look different too. The pics I’ve seen are impressive.
Don’t know when I’ll see the Bulldogs live again. I left when Tulane went up on us 28-0 a few years ago and haven’t been back.
POTW: Hawaii -7
Bonus pick: Texas -3
It’s a Halloween playlist, RSR style:
The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead – XTC
All the Things – Scarecrow Collection http://www.scarecrowcollection.net/media.php
Haunted When the Minutes Drag – Love & Rockets
More Human Than Human – Rob Zombie
Caring is Creepy or Phantom Limb (it’s a pick ’em) – The Shins
Bonus SOTW: Candy – Iggy Pop (with back-up by the B-52’s Kate Pierson)
Excellent theme and song selections, TB. You just might get my vote next week.

Bust a Move – Young MC
Funky Cold Medina – Tone Loc
SOTW – I know this one has already appeared on the board, but I could not leave it off of this list.
Push It – Salt’nPepa
Damn, i posted my picks in wrond place! Sorry!
OB will be running 9 miles tomorrow morning, so here are a few tunes that will get me motivated, get the ole heart pumping and help me stay in rhythm during my long, boring run. Keep in mind it takes while to run 9 miles so I need plenty of music.
To get myself from the bed, into the car, and onto the trails I always start with some Metallica. I usually go throught two or three songs before reaching the park and onto the trials. Once I get out on the trails I play a slightly slower, soothing kind of music, because I can’t run nine miles with my heart rate at 90% on the max. Then my post run will again kick it up a notch.
Pre Run:
The Outlaw Torn (Metallica)
Enter Sandman (Metallica)
Nothing Else Matters (Metallica)
Run:
Time (Hootie and the Blowfish)
Here Without You (3 Doors Down)
Heart Shaped Bruise (Elvis Costello)
Country Darkness (Elvis Costello)
Hello (Evanescense)
Hellelujah (Jeff Buckley)
All the Ways I want You (Jimmy Buffett)
Handy Man (James Taylor)
Stay (Sugarland)
Teardrops on My Guitar (Taylor Swift)
Stand Still Look Pretty (The Wreckers)
Amsterdam (Coldplay)
Whenever You Remember (Carrie Underwood)
Don’t Blink (Kenny Chesney)
Post Run:
We Will rock You (Queen)
Thunderstruck (AC/DC)
Comin Home (KISS)
Sweet Child O Mine (Guns N Roses)
Jamie’s Cryin (Van Halen)
Song of the Week:
Moving in Stereo (Cars) for the scene in Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Picks:
Kansas State +11
Georgia +5 ½
Ole Miss -6
Rice -2
Kentucky +3 ½

Break Somethin’- Limp Bizkit
Stranglehold- Ted Nugent
Unchained- Van Halen

American Bad Ass- Kid Rock
If those songs don’t get you hype, check your pulse.
TB, I’m not getting any points for my tunes, but I see everyone using them for their Songs of the Week.
The people are in charge now. Be sure and vote starting Saturday. I will take editorial notice that your songs have been used as SOTW by other posters more than once.
I had to give up awarding the bonus myself, because I like all the lists. I am particularly proud of my own effort this week. I have a feeling you’ll get some appreciation out of rockstar who is also a distance runner. Speaking of RSR, nice call on those backup vocals.
I will be sure and vote this week. I particularly like your “Listen Here” links.
I’m sorry I don’t understand the point system thus the reason I’ve never given a point spread. I thought my team just had to win. I don’t think Ole Miss won by 10 the week I picked them. I’m now starting to care and pay interest to a sport I dislike. Remind me why I’m on here again?
editor’s note–you’re exempt from posting the spread–just keep picking. Even after a bit of a losing streak your system is as good as just about anyone else’s.
I don’t know why you’re on here, but I’m on here for the tunes. I can’t pick worth a darn, so I can’t go wrong with music.
For the amateur philosophy, occasional chuckle, but mostly for the banter.
Or you could go with the great Smokey and the Bandit scene when Burt goes to get Jerry out of the house and say “for the money, for the glory and for the fun. Mostly for the money.”
I mainly just hope it’s a little fun and that you’ll start to check in on some other posts! You ought to tell your friends to come on here and see what kinds of degenerates you had to grow up with.
RMac don’t start doubting yourself now – the point system is mainly so the bookie can make money -that is my personal theory. Otherwise, it should/would just be about who wins and who loses. Stick with your theme of survival since it is working.
The point spread is just like the stock market.
I will go against Baen in all ten games he chooses in our pool and against all of Pitalos here

I will go ahead now and place my votes for the music TB, and hopefully people will follow my lead and vote in the manner that you requested. I think that should be taken into consideration, if you can’t follow simple directions maybe you don’t need points, huh? I digress, and choose.
SOTW- OB- For his reference to Fast Times and for the effort he put into tunes this week(lot of typing)
LIST- Larry- For taking me back to the 80’s one more time
THEME- Pitalo(Skeeter)- For his “Jones” compilation
SOTW – RMac for I’m Your Boogieman (wish I had thought of it for my Halloween inspired list) and Ed for Damn, Wish I Was Your Lover
List – TB gets my vote. Excellent call on the Todd Snider tune.
Theme – OB. I’m a sucker for a running playlist. I go for world beat on longer runs – The Afro Celts, Rusted Root, any Peter Gabriel collaboration. Good rhythm.
SOTW- Fig E for Humpty dance
List-Zeek
THeme-TKH
SOTW–Ed’s Damn, etc, which brought the Rebs good luck.
List–RSR for the non-obvious Halloween tunes
Theme–I’ll go with OB and his runnin list. How was your time OB?
I will go with Fig E for list and SOTW.
Theme vote goes to Jessie Lou. larry loves money.
Playlist of the Wee: Zeek
I particularly like the Ted Nugent
SOTW:
Sweet’s “Do You Feel Like I (We) Do”
TB,
I have been running again for 6 weeks and up until now I’ve been trying to build a nice base. Yesterday I started incorporating Hills and tempo runs into my weekly schedule in order to get stronger and faster. In two weeks I start Intervals, which will get me even faster.
I am not as fast as I was two years ago when I ran the Houston Marathon. I was averaging about 8 minutes per mile on my long runs back then. For the last 6 weeks I have been struggling to break 9:30 per mile, but I am feeling better and stronger it’s taking less and less time to recover.
I will definiteltely give Rock Star Rambler’s tunes a try during my 11 mile long run this week.
List – TB
Song – Revoluntion
SOTW – Me and Mrs. Jones
Humpty Dance
damnit that was mine above
Diaz getting killed. No support from the coast. Next storm that comes, the coast gets what it deserves from the insurance co’s–but not you Sweet.
On the good side, Kitchens looks like he should win. I don’t know if a runoff is called for if he doesn’t get 50% though.
My thoughts on the big one later. I’m still watching for some specific states and congressional results before I opine and analyze.
