TB is eagerly anticipating the return of Thursday Pickin. This year promises to be the best one ever judging by the summer enthusiasm generated by the Football in Julypalooza series and even an early playlist submission from Larry. This week is for predictions. Choose three teams and pick their season records. I suggest predicting your favorite team, biggest rival and whoever else interests you, but hey, I’m no authoritarian–do it however you like. And if you want to bust out with a pre-season playlist, have at it. My picks are:
TB’s Mississippi school predictions
Favorite–Mississippi State (0-12) For once I’d like to go into a season with expectations that have a reasonable chance of being exceeded. I must admit that my heart thinks somehow the Bullies will win 6, but then again, my heart can be an idiot sometimes.
Rival–Ole Miss (9-3) Ole Miss has a great quarterback, some nice skill players and a lot of returning starters in the less glamourous slots. If they falter it will be due to either the QB Snead getting injured or due to the loss of Peria Jerry being greater than anyone anticipates. That guy was a beast on the D-line last year, especially late.
USM–I don’t even know who the hell they play and I don’t really care. However, they will probably go 7-5 because they usually do, as far as I know.
SEC Champs will be Florida and National Champs will be USC. Why not.
My 2009 playlist
- It’s a Long Way to the Top –AC/DC
- Beer Run –Todd Snider
- All Things Must Pass –George Harrison (hat tip to Itunes store)
- Alive and Kicking –Simple Minds
- Catch a Wave –The Beach Boys (since it IS July)
And finally, George Thorogood, live from Clarksdale, Mississippi
Ole Miss (fave and alma mater)- 10-2. We’ll finally win the west, but do what Ole Miss does best, and choke in the SEC title game. It will be Tim Tebow’s revenge.
Rival- LSU (sorry State, I don’t really consider you guys to be our biggest rivals) 8-4. Don’t really know anything about who they have coming back. They’ll have a winning record, I just hope they lose to us and Saban.
Virginia Tech (the girl I’m seeing is an alumnus, so why not) 9-3. They are usually good. For SEC bragging rights purposes, Alabama better beat them in the season opener.
TB, you stole my Long Way to the Top pick. Here’s an awesome video of them for that:

Ha ha ha… I have the same great prediction for my own alma matter – ECU. If I say we go 0-10 then I can only be happily incorrect!
Poor Pirates. We still (kinda) suck.
Ole miss….9-3…realistic in spite of over the top preseason predictions of their dominance…..i think we might share the west…bama and lsu i think will be mediocre (relativley speaking)…ole miss didn’t choke in the swamp last year nor in the cotton bowl when they got behind early…..sugar bowl bound
LSU….8-4…quarterback’s a weakness…this is a team you can’t take lightly, but i don’t think they’re as dominant as they recently were (nor is bama for that matter)…that covers rivals
Notre Dame…i’ve hated this team since i was a kid watching replays of their games on sunday TV…loved it when i was a freshman scout team player at ole miss ….when we beat their ass in jackson…their only loss that season…10-2…great article in the Wall Street Journal recently on the significance of offensive line starts relatice to team success….notre dame OL has started 100 games together….most of any major team…..ole miss came out of nowhere last year….90+offensive line starts….hate to admit it but ND might go far this year
Ole Miss: 10-2. Every year, regardless of circumstances, I predict a loss to Alabama. I also think my team will trip up at least one other place.
MSU: 5-7, new coach exuberance, probably a better coach, enthusiasm, etc.
LSU: 7-5, this is a biased prediction b/c I hate them so much (not real hate; just when-you’re-talking-about-sports hate).
Rebels- 11-1
MSU- 1-11
FLA- 12-0
Florida and Tebow shock the world and go down as best ever.
Brown Sugar- Rolling Stones
Pour Some Sugar On Me- Def Leppard
Dixie- Ole Miss Band
The theme I was going for here was the Rebels playing in the dome in Sugar Bowl.
State 7-5. Laugh all you want…Eat doodoo.
Olemiss 8-4. As a pretty little coed once said to TB and Smilyj, “F*#k Omiss”
Maddog(kNelms) reaching climax -20sec.
USM 10-2
Maine 4-8
Montana St 7-5
Led Zeppelin
Florida wins the National Championship – Expected
Ole Miss goes so far and…..chokes – Expected
MSU doing better than expected – Priceless
You Can’t Always Get What You Want – Rolling Stones
Why are you hatin on uncle rocky’s team??
I wish I had bet money on that comment! But as a chosen few on this site know, I’m not a betting girl. I’m not hating at all, just filled with dread at the possibility. I like to fly under the radar the opposite of all the hype and too much attention BEFOREHAND. I am not one of those to build someone up and enjoy watching them fall. Now if they make it we can lavish all the accolades and attention to them and I’ll be right here doing just that. The proof will be in the playing and that has yet to be done.
I know I already commented… but I wanted to let you know that I have something for you over at my blog! 🙂
