A Poem About Nothing

Quote of the Day: Half the world is composed of people who have something to say and can’t and the other half who have nothing to say and keep on saying it.” –Robert Frost

TB has grown weary of outrage these days, be it either from left or right;

One can’t often see just how things will evolve, at only the very first sight;

And so on what irks I can’t write.

I haven’t seen much that is funny this week, blank stares nor good conversations;

Sometimes my mind just can’t tune in the wavelength, this gives me great consternation;

So humor leaves not the station.

Sports in the summer except baseball are dead, there’s nothing that’s ripe for debate;

Could force an issue that would be out of place, but I think it’s better to wait;

For Pickin’s return to the slate.

Though I’ve failed to deliver much worth reading, I am glad you tuned in today;

I expect things will be better soon and again, hopefully with little delay;

But for now I’ve nothing to say.

About travellinbaen

I'm a 40 year old lawyer living in Ridgeland, Mississippi. I'm several years and a couple hundred miles removed from most of my old running buddies so I started the blog to provide an outlet for many of the observations and ideas that used to be the subjects of our late night/happy hour/halftime conversations and arguments.

    So you get in a little writing slump and THIS is what you come up with?

    I’m drawing a blogging blank this week. Here’s MY poem:

    Words. I got none.

    Travellinbaen
    Can’t pick up his paen
    To write a word or two!
    It getting pretty obvious,
    The commentors are oblivious….
    But Baen’s got the summer time blues!

    It is time for some shade and relaxation
    To give yourself some rejuvenation
    Quit for the weekend and have a cool drink
    Imagine yourself on the Horn Island Beach
    Sun, sand and the sounds of waves
    Will ready you to write on another day
    Of Bikinis and boobs and suntan lotion
    And the profound effect of the local motion
    Unless of course what you find to do in the sea salt
    Is something that must be packed into the vault.

    TB a post about nothing? How very Seinfeld of you. 😉 I agree with Samsmama this is amazing compared to the massive blank I am drawing. If you are going to take a break from posting, I’ll just continue to dig through your archives.

    Jessie Lou ~ That was simply amazing. I love “Can’t pick up his paen” Paen..I absolutely love it. Great job…do you have a blog?

  4. SM, your poem says more in four words than mine in a bunch of em. Though after racking my brain for two days I was patting myself on the back a bit for making a whole post about nothing.

    Harm, I love the Sein. No break for the blog though. I’ll be back with something today, in fact it may be a Harmo trademarked “rambler”.

    JLou, beautiful. You still have time to write your 15 words story or if you want to wait, TDW is putting a new list together and you can jump in on the next round. And I’m with Harmo…”Paen”…I think the “-aen” should really be used a lot more….that cracked me up.

  5. Jessie Lou says:

    I am so glad you both liked it – as Baen can attest – I’ve done better and I’ve still got most all of them. I knew I was going to do something with the Baenism and I was lucky it worked. This one shall be called…

    Ode to Baen and His Paen

    Harmo – this may not be the proper forum but I read the Toothpick story on the TDW and it was totally awesome! My first thought was I could have built a whole world during one or two past relationships! I do not have a blog, do not think there is time BUT appreciate that you think I could. I have written my own brand of sarcastic poetry for most of my 46 years with a catalog dating back to 1992. I think there is even mention of TB’s colorblindness in one!

    Thanks to both of you for building my self esteem in preparation for the summer soltice weekend!

    Jessie Lou ~ Thank you..you are very kind. Perhaps someday you will find time to publish some of your cataloged poetry, and if you ever do I would love to get a heads up on that. In the meantime I’ll keep an eye out for it here in TB’s comment section.
