I pretty much have to agree with you on US drug policy. I'm not sure how to fix it, but I know we're clogging our prisons with too many users. I think something like the depression era CCC camps would be good as alternatives to prison for drug user convicts. Put them in a semi-military environment doing public works projects.

To quote some great legal mind of long ago, "It is better that one thousand guilty men go free than one innocent man be convicted", something like that. I am no lawyer, but through personal experience I can attest to the fact that while we still live in the greatest country in the world, our legal system is flawed. I think the root of its problems come from the govt.'s stance on drugs which has logjammed the courts and turned the dockets into a cattle-call conveyer belt wholesale of plea bargains. People do not have faith in a jury of their peers and would rather plea out for a semi-light sentence rather than risk a guilty verdict with a max sentence. Of course, upon release they will be faced with a criminal record that prohibits decent employment for the most part. Might as well turn to crime for a living. Vicious cycle. Any suggestions from the esquires out there?

I teach a couple of CLEs every year. It helps me get referrals and, best of all, it means that I do not have to attend any CLEs.

That is an interesting one. While totally worthless to my practice , it would be interesting.
